New player here (level 50, been playing for a couple of weeks) and I've searched the forums and looked at the build guides and the threads with other sniper question, and I get the BSI vs LSI etc, and I've seen the duels/EvE calculation, but I'm still a little confused about the use of defense when playing as a sniper. Basically wondering how important it is at all.As a sniper, if I understand right, my defense points will still count 100% when I'm defending - is this not only in offline duels wars but also in EvE when I am hit in my building? As a sniper my main concern is really when I am doing the hitting (EvE, bosses, and when I choose to hit someone with my stamina in the battle list) So I am wondering whether to put any more points at all into defense if I don't care that much about offline hits?I've got about 100 in defense now, about 80 in attack (I built defense first which allowed me to not get farmed in my earliest levels, and I still bounce about 9 out of 10 times), 75 energy, and about 50 stamina. My plan is to not put any more into energy, just gain additional energy through mafia reputation, and maybe build stamina up to about 100 (??) since I like to do bosses and PvP.
Age of Empires is a challenging game, especially when you play at high levels. For a long time, I tought it was impossible to win with the difficulty level set to HARDEST. Indeed, to most players, it will either be extremely hard or downright impossible.
So I'm close to needing a plan for how to allocate additional points.I've read conflicting advice about how high to get defense up but am wondering why bother with it if I'm committed to sniper build. Since this is my first character I'm not sure how much should I worry about farming/offline hits later, and how much should I worry about being a 'glass cannon' during empire wars?Any advice appreciated. Re: How much defense as a sniper?I switched to sniper late in the game, from Enforcer, because I went to LSI build and no longer had enough att/def for enforcer, currently lvl 515. I think it depends if you are going BSI or LSI. I like sniper for LSI because I don't focus on defense (although I was already at 525+/- def when I switched). I'm not looking at defense as a priority, I like bosses and doing damage in EVE so high attack sniper is good.
Once I have Energy and Stamina to where I want them (2000+/-/1000+/-) I'm going to load up Attack to 1000-1500. Only then will I think about defense, or possibly but not likely, health. It all depends on how you like to play the game, and how long you think you'll play (and, of course, how much or little you plan to spend on FPs.). Re: How much defense as a sniper?I was about to say that voodoo recommends a 4:1 ratio, but as you can see from above, that's out of date.Voodoo has been hit by attack inflation.
He's quite capable of speaking for himself, but I'll offer two other thoughts to try to balance here.1. Sometimes an empire needs a person to play a different role for a short time. Most of the time, that means they need heavies - which don't need any stats really. But if you were to switch to a role that needed some def, like assassin, you'd be better off with a bit of defense. Maybe this will never come up for you. I keep in mind that defense is worth 70% offense, too, so I don't feel like I'm throwing the SP away if I go 4-1.2.
The game gives you 288 energy and 288 stam daily. You'll need a gas tank big enough to hold whatever you'll get while you're away. The popular suggestion is 100 of each, because that's 8 hours worth.
I think that's cutting it a bit close, but you probably don't need 300 of each. Pick a number in between that matches your playing style. By the time you're at level 200, you won't be leveling daily, but you'll probably be in the game for other reasons.Have fun. Re: How much defense as a sniper? My personal suggestion is Get at least 300/300 eng / Stam. This not only covers your free daily regen but also helps boost your lvling at a slightly reasonable pace.As to your class preference of sniper. If you are sure you will be a full time sniper then technically u don't need def as a cannon build works best.
Def may add 70% to attack but that means you are losing the remaining 30%. Also since you said you r not bothered by pvp hits then only makes more sense to stack attack. As for ue long run I would not recommend a low eng Stam build unless u r ready to put in money for lts. Reason being that since you are interested in eve then you will face opponents with maybe same if not higher lvl as you and the difference in their lts will crush you if reasonably lvled up. I started as bsi build but am myself aiming for 1k/1k eng Stam build now. Because my bsi build gets crushed by guys with similar stats but better lts. Re: How much defense as a sniper?Mathematically 0 defense is ideal.
Sniper class is set up to do extra damage. Attack creates damage and increases those bonuses.
And attack is also defense. But the only way to maximize stat points is to put them directly towards the thing your class skills bonus towards and that's damage. Your lts have defense. Your attack is.70 defense. In the long run no matter what you do your actual effective stats are never better then 1/.70Even when you take my toon where on paper my attack stat is 150/1 towards attack.
